*Props to Sharon, who coined that phrase for me*
What is one of the first things that you think of when you think of China? That’s right. You think pandas. And I really just had the privilege of seeing them in the Panda Research Institute here in Chengdu. Sichuan is known for being the first place where a foreigner encountered a panda. It’s definitely one of the draws of coming to Chengdu. A lot of us were really looking forward to this particular field trip. Especially, after our trip to Dongla Canyon when one of our classmates kept on calling out, "Panda!" We would all look, even though we knew it wasn't true.
I know that this sounds silly, but the first thought that came to mind when I saw my first panda was, “They do exist!” They just aren’t mythical creatures, my friends. They are real and just as adorable in person as you would imagine them to be. Lazy. Sleepy. Eating bamboo. And dirty. But that’s beside the point! What more can I do than show you pictures. Taken by me. On my camera. In real life. Yep!
First sighted panda! |
Eating bamboo. |
So cute! Huddled together and sleeping for warmth. Just babies! |
Look behind me! |
Yep. |
Believe it. I sat next to a panda while it was eating honey. My purse got sticky. My arm was around a panda. I practically lived the dream.
And now back to reality. Next post coming soon!
